Buying
a home may be the biggest investment you will ever make. In
1996, a Government survey estimated that in England, an average
owner occupied house had an outstanding repair bill of £3500.
The home you are proposing to buy may have the
appearance of being in a good state of repair but a survey or
report from a RICS Surveyor will put your mind at rest.
Problems like poor construction, botched repairs,
the property's age, and subsidence problems may not be obvious,
but when such problems are diagnosed by a surveyor, it can save
homebuyers thousands of pounds in repair bills and make you
sleep that much better knowing you are going into a purchase
with your eyes open.
In the RICS Guide for Homebuyers, Phil Spencer,
from Channel 4's "Relocation" and "Location, Location, Location"
said:
"Having an independent and comprehensive
survey by an RICS member makes good sense - and could save
you thousands of pounds in repair bills".
You can't make an informed decision on whether
or not to purchase your new home unless you are aware of the
true condition and value of the property, prior to purchase.
